Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

Chemical skin peels are one of the oldest cosmetic treatments performed, dating back to ancient Egyptian times when, natural acids derived from fruit and milk were applied to the skin in the name of beauty. As knowledge and science have advanced, chemical peels are much more sophisticated and specific to a variety of skin problems, including uneven pigmentation, dull, dry or oily skin, wrinkles, blocked pores and acne.

As an Acne and Rosacea Accredited treatment Clinic with ARAUK as a team we have worked hard to ensure we provide the most up to date evidence base treatment options to all patients.

What are Chemical Peel Treatments?

Chemical peels are usually classified according to depth of penetration and skin injury caused ( this is the term used as opposed to actually being injured)

Superficial Peels - Alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) act on the superficial uppermost layer of the skin -epidermis,  with temporary results.

Medium/deep depth Peels - Trychloroacetic acid (TCA) penetrates through the five layers of the epidermis and acts on the uppermost layer of the dermis

How do Chemical Peels work?

Chemical peels aim to exfoliate the dead skin cells from the skins surface by inducing a controlled wound which removes the superficial layers of the skin. This promotes the growth of new healthy skin cells to grow back creating a brighter more rejuvenated skin.

What to Expect During Treatment

Consultation is key to achieving the results you want to see.  This will include full medical and skin history, visual and machine based skin analysis followed by a comprehensive treatment plan and skin care advice.  On the day of treatment following consent and pre-treatment photography the skin is prepped and the chemical peel applied.  Post procedure skin care is provided once complete and all after care explained

What kind of results will I see from Chemical Peel Treatments?

Results will vary depending on skin condition, presence of photodamage and lifestyle.  Patients usually notice the skin is brighter immediately after and then over time more even with reduced pigmentation, blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles. The process of new skin remodelling is ongoing and will result in stimulation of new collagen after about 6-8 weeks.

Do Chemical Peels hurt?
