How do you get good skin? Well, with apologies to Julie Andrews (who, in fairness, had beautiful, clear skin and still looks radiant) and to borrow from the Sound of Music:

“Let’s start at the very beginning

That’s a very good place to start

When you read, you begin with A-B-C

When you sing, you begin with Do-re-mi”

And when you want to care for the skin, you begin with AL medical grade skincare, Lyndsey and me. Sorry, but that had to be done!

Building Good Skin

Seriously now, good skin needs building up – and what is a building without solid foundations? In the eternal quest for brighter, fresher skin, anti-wrinkle injections, fillers, Profhilo, and bio-remodelling can only do so much.

To maximise the results of other treatments, to help them last longer, the skin must be properly and fastidiously cared for. Crucially, if that good skincare regime begins early, your skin will reap the rewards later, and you’ll keep your glow longer.

Don’t Buy Into Spin to Care for your Skin

This quest for great skin makes the skin care industry huge. Sadly, it also means that so-called celeb or ‘influencer’ endorsement, and brands with immense marketing spends, sell products which simply aren’t up to the job. Sure, they may be beautifully packaged, they might smell great, and they feel luxurious. So they must work, right? After all, they cost a packet, and some random celeb or influencer SWEARS by it!

Tempted? Ask yourself what that person – or that award-winning ad agency – knows about skin. I’d hazard a guess that it’s not much. I’d also guess that despite their glowing reviews, gushing testimonials, and hashtag-no-filters, THEIR faces don’t rely on the product they’re pimping. Frankly, I’d bare my derriere in Woolie’s window if they used it regularly at all.

When is a Skincare Expert NOT a Skincare Expert?

Almost as bad and as misleading are the countless Facebook group beauty ‘experts’ promoting their latest ‘business’ venture. If these multi-level-marketing products really were that effective, would the companies really rely on commission-based agents? Would they really need to use mumpreneurs – buying into the promise of unlimited earnings around current commitments – as reps? The marketing – the entire business model – is aimed at getting money out of them, too. I know what I think – and you know my experience and knowledge. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

Cheap Imitations Aren’t Cheap. And Don’t Work.

Because let’s face it, these supposedly less expensive options usually AREN’T. Even if they ARE seemingly inexpensive, they don’t work, making any small economy a false one. When new clients come to AL Medical Aesthetics & Wellness, they will often have spent a fortune on trying to improve their skin. They’ll have tried everything. They’ll have wanted to believe every bit of hype. And that’s what these companies will play on. Hope. Often combined with desperation. So much so, that my clients now feel let down and sceptical about what can be achieved.

And that’s where we come in. As experts in all things skin, with the medical background and experience, we KNOW what can and can’t be achieved – and how. At the risk of resorting to clichés, good, healthy skin really DOES start from within. This may seem counter-intuitive – after all, don’t we recommend and supply clinical skincare solutions? Well, yes. But the difference is, unlike mass-marketed products and MLM hype, we’re working for YOU.

Good Skin Starts Within

Whatever your skin concerns, we’re here to offer advice and support, not to sell, sell, sell. So no, it’s not only about skin treatments or skincare products. We have patients who have spent thousands and tried everything but now have the skin they always wanted. They only wished they had come to us first. Whether it’s:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Dull or sagging skin
  • Breakout-prone skin
  • Very dry or very oily skin
  • Skin tags or blemishes
  • Post-natal melasma
  • Any other skin issues

We can help you. A thorough consultation will look first at nutrition, environmental factors, and overall health. Then, we can begin to advise and, possibly, recommend treatments, routines and products. We are approved stockists of medical-grade skincare products by Alumier M.D and Obagi. We stock and prescribe these because we know they are good. INCREDIBLY good. We are happy to show you want they can achieve.

And we use them ourselves, too – so you know we put our money where our mouth is. We won’t recommend ANYTHING we don’t know to be good.
